The Local Government Animal Welfare Group, formerly known as National Companion Animal Welfare Focus Group, was established to bring together local authority inspectors with animal welfare groups, animal sector groups and Government to improve animal welfare standards through the sharing of resources and knowledge.
Recognising the value in this, DEFRA gave funding towards the setting up of this website alongside additional funds provided by Pets at Home and Pet Industry Federation. The Local Government Association (LGA) support the provision of such a resource to support officers and enable a valuable way of getting their feedback.
Rob Quest from City of London chairs the LGAWG and Marisa Heath from the Canine & Feline Sector Group provides the secretariat resource. Membership will be formed of local authority officers and once fully formed we will seek to respond to relevant consultations and represent local authorities on the animal sector groups. We will regularly seek member’s opinions to ensure we represent them effectively.
